Central hub: the proprietary battery powered wireless sensor technology developed by BeeSmart (the Beebot) monitors the hive conditions for signs of any critical conditions that indicate a problem or outright threaten the survival of the bee colony. Monitoring the temperature, humidity and acoustic frequencies that the colony produces, it alerts the beekeeper for any indication that the hive requires his attention in a timely manner.

Hive: the hive is based on the widely used and well known among beekeepers Langstroth system. The sensor technology is embedded into the hive itself, making it very easy to use – the user simply has to plug in the battery to start collecting data from inside the hive.

  • What data does the uHive record and why is this information viable? – The sensors integrated in the uHive measure the in-hive temperature and humidity and record the sound inside of the hive. The temperature and humidity analysis tells us a lot about the health of the colony, as bees tend to keep those parameters within certain levels and any fluctuation is a clear sign that something is wrong with the colony. Our algorithms analyze the information gathered by the sensors and send alarms and notifications to the beekeeper, so that she knows that her attention is needed. We are currently working on advanced sound analysis algorithms that will allow for notifications when a queen has stopped laying eggs, or a new queen is born. We’ll also be able to predict swarming up to 5 days prior to the event, so that the beekeeper will be ready to react. We are fully committed to further expand our algorithms’ portfolio with additional useful tools for our beekeepers.
  • What is the monthly subscription for? – The subscription gives you access to the BBoard and to our full online support.
  • What is the BBoard? – The BBoard is our interactive dashboard where all the data aggregated by your uHIve is stored, analysed and visualised in easy to read graphs and tables. The BBoard gives you live insights to your beehive and sends you notifications when your attention is needed. Apart from that, you’ll be able to see historical data of your hive and to know what to expect over the course of the year, based on the past dynamic of your bees. Our BBoard software is also a great tool for taking notes and keeping track of your operations. What’s more, it offers the option to input hive inspection data in 5 simple steps and to add reminders in the built-in calendar.
  • What sort of communication is needed between the unit in the hive and the internet? – The uHive connects to the cloud via Wi-Fi. The connection may be provided by a router or a cellular hotspot.
  • How to install the uHive?– The uHive comes with an easy to understand installation guide. You will only need a screwdriver for the screws.
  • What are the beehive’s specifications? – The uHive is a standard 10-frame Langstroth wooden beehive.
  • What maintenance does the uHive require? – Тhe only thing you have to do is recharge the sensor’s device battery, once its drained (usually once every 6 months).
  • How do I connect the uHive to my Wi-Fi network? – You can easily configure the network you want the uHive to work with from your BBoard account. You will need a smartphone (Android or iOS) to provide an initial hotspot to access the configuration portal. Full configuration manual will be available in your BBoard account.
